I didn’t grow up on pasta. In my childhood kitchen, the smells were earthy and strong — cabbage rolls, roast meats, and slow-simmered broths from my German and Latvian heritage. My Oma, who lived to 105, cooked with love and tradition, and it was through her that I first discovered the soul of European cooking.
Italian food came to me later — not from a Nonna, but from curiosity, from pizza, from falling in love with the simplicity and boldness of a cuisine that speaks with just a few perfect ingredients.
Now, Italian cooking feels like an extension of my Asian roots: it’s about balance, freshness, timing, and deep respect for flavour. From silky garlic noodles to rustic tomato sauces and herby olive oil magic, this is my take on Italy — reimagined through a WoknWhisk lens.
